Name of Product: This Day In History

Angie’s Description of Product: This Day in History has a number of interesting features.  You can look up historical occasions by date - today, this week, or past dates in history. You can subscribe for FREE for various email subscriptions. You can email stories or print them out, and you can search by topic (The Civil War).

There are no required downloads or plug-ins. It’s a great tool for parents, teachers, and homeschoolers, to use as part of their curriculum or to supplement what they’re already learning. I feel it would be best if parents and kids viewed the videos on here together, so the events can be discussed and content can be reviewed.

Homeschool Uses: This is a great tool for homeschoolers, to be used to start topic conversations, or to use to supplement lesson plans. I am using this as part of our history, to help my son learn about the world, and to spark an interest in history. As he finds something that he wants to know more about, we can do further research and turn it into a lesson geared towards his age and abilities. It’s a great tool for audio and visual learners because it includes videos. Because the videos are short, it’s a great tool for those with the short attention spans.

Content and Safety: The very nature of history can be graphic, therefore some content on this site might not be suitable for young children. Parents should use their own discretion on what is appropriate.

Angie’s Experience Using the Product: I signed up to have This Day in History delivered to my email address. My son and I played with entering in different dates, and watching the videos that came up for them. We had fun putting events to dates, and he asked a lot of questions about the events that happened, which I then added to our curriculum for school for the next week. It’s very easy to use, with all of the links working properly. We will definitely be using this on a daily basis, and sharing it with friends who homeschool.

Summary: I really like this tool for homeschooling, I would recommend for parents who don’t homeschool as well, to supplement what their kids are learning. The videos are short and to the point, and easy for kids to understand. Please check this out, and leave some feedback on how well you liked it!
